Way drab to FAB!

And, still not technically done.  I have more ideas for this wall, but I
just had to blog the transformation thus far.

I have been struggling with our great room for five years now, since we moved in March of '06.  It is a HUGE room with ridiculously high ceilings (like, you need scaffolding (sp?) high).  Anyway, this wall in the dining area of the great room, in particular was giving me the most trouble.  I FINALLY talked my hubby into taking this room slow and doing one wall at a time until it's all done!  I knew that if we didn't tackle this now, with our new baby scheduled to arrive early September, it would be another three years til we could do anything about it.  I am not known for my patience.

I had a brilliant idea (at least to me it was) for a very inexpensive piece of art for this wall.  I took some pictures of my silverware, just plain old silverware at different angles in black and white.  I printed them in 8x10 and framed them with three frames I already had.  This all cost me about $6.  Well, naturally, once I had these babies all framed up, I was ready to hang them immediately.  No can do with the ugly white wall.  My husband actually had the idea to paint this wall (that shares with the kitchen) the same blue as our kitchen.  This will act as the accent wall and the rest of the room will be a warm taupe color (I think).  :-)  He has great ideas...sometimes.  This was one of those times, at least in my mind.  I love the way that it turned out.  And, it really helps to unify the two rooms.

As I said, I am not done with this wall...I have a few more projects waiting in the wings.  And, I will also be painting the rest of the great room over the next few months, so I will be tracking the progress here.  I included some "before" shots.

Before...BLAH!
After....Aaaaaahhhh

And, here are some pics of the rest of the great room...as I said, work in progress.  Can't wait til I can post some "afters!"

The blue wall, to match the kitchen.  The rest is white now, with off-white trim (yuk!).  We are going for taupe (or beige) something warm on the walls and white trim.

So there you have it...I have officially committed to doing this project, as I have put it all out there in the blog world.  :-)  And, if you're wondering, YES, I am replacing that HIDEOUS ceiling fan!

I can't believe you finished it already! I mean I can, but still! And I love the silverware pics! That's the kind of stuff I'm talking about that you should have a link to prints for sale and here in your blog you show them how to display them! And why does your kitchen look green to me? Great job!

I had this done in one day! :-) That doesn't surprise you, I know! Jesse was home all day, so I took full advantage. I think he was happy to go back to work. And, the kitchen just looks green because of bad lighting. :-/ Thanks for pointing that out. LOL
